Oxford City
Oxford is the city of dreaming spires.
It is a city of magnificence and majesty.
Its streets are not paved with gold but are lined with the rich tapestry of its history and architecture,
Washed with the wealth of knowledge, culture, endeavour and literature that has passed down them.
Oxford: the city of dreaming spires. Mathew Arnold's famous quote is known by almost all visitors to Oxford but what he actually wrote was "that sweet city with her dreaming spires" in Thyrsis.

Breweries and Beers
Oxfordshire is the best kept secret when it comes to beer, both with it's bigger breweries and micro-breweries. "How come?", many may ask who have not had the chance to drink our great ale.
Well I should start by saying this was not always the case. First we had to have our darkest days, when within a small period of time Greene King bought out two of our main breweries, Morland and Morrells, closing both, and many of the pubs. However not all was lost.
First things first.
Long running breweries Hook Norton and Wychwood went from strength to strength opening up more pubs and making more beer. The other effect from the closures was many micro-breweries setting up, making some of the best beer EVER.
Beers in Oxford to look out for:
OLD HOOKY much loved all rounder, and HOOKY BITTER good session beer, Hook Norton Brewery.
HOBGOBLIN dark strong distinctive taste, Wychwood Brewery.
PROSPECT from one of the new micro-breweries that has to be for all real ale drinkers
WEYLAND SMITHY from the White Horse Brewery.
OXFORDSHIRE ALE from Marsh Gibbon. A great pale ale perfect on a hot summer day. Oxfordshire Ales brewery.
ABINGDON BRIDGE from Loose Cannon currently only on draught becoming more and more popular in local area. Loose Cannon Brewery.
ON INN yes our own brew made by Best Mates brewery for the Oxford Hash House Harriers. This beer is our beer stop brew and goes well with our hash food, in particular Bollard's roast pork with crackling and apple sauce.
In closing, Oxford surely is a great place for real ale/bitter and if you have to drink lager then we also have the Cotswold brewery making lager, and a good wheat beer too.
Victoria.
